Hey Mom,
That's awesome that you typed this email on your phone. Do you still have the Treo? That's cool that you are able to do that now too just like Dad :)
Oh great, another surgery for Grandpa, poor guy! I'm glad that they find him in good enough health to be able to perform surgery :)
That's awesome that they will probably close on the house this week and that they will be moved in as soon as possible :D That makes me excited!
Things this week with my new companion have gone great, we've had lots of fun and yes I lived with him before and we get along very well. This will be a good companionship but I'm not sure how long it will last since I've been here quite a while.
lol, I dried the socks in the dryer alright but I haven't really noticed any considerable shrinking, plus they were super long anyway so it wouldn't hurt if they shrunk a little bit. Thanks for the advice though ;) I'll probably continue to dry them...but who knows.
That's awesome that the weather there has been good enough for shorts. I haven't really paid attention to our weather. It's been a lot warmer. We've even had some highs in the 80's. It's been pretty nice and I've been able to wear short sleeves (suit coat season just recently ended so I wore short sleeves alone).
lol, I don't think this email was nearly as choppy as you seemed to think, I'm just glad you sent me an email :D So thank you.
I love you tons!
Elder Jay Davis
Hey Dad,
I am doing great :D Things are running smoothly which is nice. Yep, you've got a great memory. The Tharps just got baptized yesterday. They were baptized by their recent convert son which was awesome. It went really smoothly although one of the speakers they invited to speak went WAY long and there was a baptism after ours so it was pretty bad, but that's okay. Also Anthony Rodarte was confirmed in Sacrament meeting. (I haven't written that in anybody elses' emails so you'll have to share)
New companionship is great. Elder Boyter and I get along very well and the ward seems to like him so far. I am no longer district leader which is quite the relief for me...I really didn't enjoy the position. I'm glad I can say I've been there done that though ;) There was another elder who had been requesting to President for a long time to be D.L. so President gave it to him, which was fine by me :)
That's wicked awesome about the guy who knows Uncle Gary that is coming to our mission Spanish Speaking! He is actually probably coming in the next transfer because we are losing at least two of our Spanish-Speaking missionaries (both of which are in my zone). That would be AWESOME if he ended up being in the same zone as me :D
lol, 3 hours of yard work is WAY too much ;) I like Spring too...the summer is nice for some things, but Spring is my favorite with Winter as a close 2nd. Hopefully you have a good summer even if you don't like the season itself ;)
Oh my goodness! Speaking of ants we had a crazy experience yesterday (which will probably end up being repeated today now that I think about it). So we left the house around 8:30 a.m. and didn't return until about 8:30 p.m. Well when we left...no ants...when we returned...ant infestation! Wow it was TERRIBLE! Luckily they were only in two places, the bathroom and over by the couch. We were able to keep them from overtaking our beds and our food. We were able to spray the places where it appeared they were coming in and we vacuumed the floor and moved the couch and vacuumed there. We quarantined a few things that we were pretty sure had an ant infestation that wasn't solvable with a vacuum. We will take care of those soon. Anyway, we had a fun night last night, our apartment is in shambles today, but we'll finish waging our war against the ants and then we'll return everything to its proper place in the apartment and it'll be cleaner than it was before so we're going to have a prim and perfect apartment which will be wonderful. Hopefully you are able to get rid of your ant problem too ;) (By the way, our member we live with knows about the problem and will probably be calling a sprayer dude to come take care of it since it's in her side of the house too)
lol, it'll be quite the experience having a brand new ward all of a sudden :D Have fun ;)
Love you tons!

Hey!
First things first...I didn't get transferred! I am still in Loma Rica. I will be getting Elder Boyter as a companion! Should be fun :D I'm super super excited to stay in Loma Rica. The work is going to be hard because all of our baptisms are done now (as of this coming Sunday), but I love the people here so it'll be really awesome to stay another transfer. I was hoping to stay one more so I'm glad :D
Love y'all
Elder Jay Davis
Dear Mom,
Yep, Sister Matuck is very awesome! She keeps us smiling. She's actually out of town for the next 2 1/2 weeks.
That's AWESOME that Dad was able to repair the fridge :D That's a bummer that most of the freezer food was lost...oh well.
That's good that your weather has been more spring like. Our week was pretty normal until Saturday and Sunday and we got BIG TIME rain and wind! It was intense and very cool. I am ready for the rain to go away, but I guarantee you when it gets hot I'll be missing the rain!
OH MY GOSH! That is SOOOO awesome that Melissa sent you that message! I am SOOOO pumped that they went to the temple and will be sealed in September! Let her know that if she keeps me informed about it I can get permission from the mission president to attend if she and Jason would like :D That would be AWESOME! Wow...that just made my whole mission! Tell her I say hi too ;)
HAHAHA that's funny that Keely was looking for my address :D That makes me excited, I've missed hearing from people. I'm glad Caitlin was relatively prompt and responded with my address.
I like the song "Oh Lord, My Redeemer" it sounds cooler when a Hawaiian guy sings it (Elder Smith had a CD with that)
Anthony, Missy's son, got baptized yesterday and it was awesome.
I just got a ton of piano music from Sister Matuck that she was getting rid of. There is some really good stuff in it. Including some Marvin Goldstein church music books that I've never seen before. I have a whole bunch that I'm going to be sending home to you that I don't want on my mission. Lots of it is in terrible shape but I figure you can go through it and decide what you like and don't like. You'll probably get rid of most of it, but I'd hate to get rid of something you'd like to have.
Love,
Elder Jay Davis
Hey Dad,
I am doing great.
Glad to hear that the fridge went okay and was repairable ;) lol, that's pretty funny that you are now the Maytag man, hopefully you don't have to fix the furnace/air conditioner, I don't think that would be very fun. Not that any of the others were either.
Oh that is awesome that you and Kody got to go to the Phoenix night race, this is the first I've heard about you guys going! I can only imagine how hot it would have been! That's a bummer for you guys that it wasn't box seats but still awesome that you got to go. That's awesome that you booked the Wigwam! That was probably expensive since you had to pay for it instead of it being complimentary, or maybe it wasn't when you and I went either and you just made it seem that way so I didn't feel bad for you spending a lot of money. Who knows. I'm glad you and Kody had fun :D
That's awesome that you went Go-Karting! I love doing that :D That's awesome that Ryan Newman won! I would much rather him than the two that led most of the race :P Goodness!
Thanks for the uplifting advice :) I'll do my best to stay smiling, shouldn't be hard since I'm staying :D
Love,
Elder Jay Davis

Hey Mom,
That's okay :D Thanks for the Happy Easter this week ;) It was great. Sister Matuck, the lady we "live with" left Easter baskets on our doorstep so when we went to leave that morning we almost stepped on them :D It was a great surprise. Yes I was able to watch all of general conference. I didn't notice the "annual" instead of "semi-annual" but a member did. I have no idea why. I heard a bit about the fridge from Dad. Sunday morning session was pretty dull anyway even though it was still good of course. Hopefully not too much of the food spoiled...but if it stopped working for that long a lot probably did spoil.
HAHAHA I'm glad you were able to use the snow to pack coolers and make a "make shift" refrigerator on the deck ;) Yeah, the wind in California has really been blowing as well! We had a major rain and wind storm last night but today it's all clear :D I would guess that Dad will be successful at reparing the fridge too, but who knows. He is definitely amazing at that sort of thing. lol, hopefully you have a good FHE either way ;)
lol, you're right about transfers. Anxiety is definitely the right word to describe how I feel. I'm sure all will be well. I realize I've made it through worse transfers than this so I'll be fine. If I can handle an emergency transfer where I was ripped out of my area then I can handle this when I'm more prepared ;) Thanks for your comforting words :D
lol, I like how you related the G&G Johnson move information to transfers ;) That's funny. I'm sure all will be well and I am looking forward to having them closer! I have really been feeling sad that I haven't spent more time with them. I don't know what it is, but I'm glad I'll be able to do so easier now!
lol, that is SO cool that you and Dad went to a Michael Buble concert! I've never been to any sort of concert so I would have nothing to compare it too, but sounds like a pretty boring concert. Nothing like a Bon Jovi concert I'm sure ;) I'm glad you thought of me :D I would have loved it, but would probably feel about like you preferring to just listen to the radio/CD
Sounds like some pretty interesting medical technology you are getting to experience. Speaking of which. Sister Smith hasn't had a chance to call Dr. Gaufin. She would love a call from you because she gets busy and forgets to call and she loved talking to you. The doctor has told her she has possible Kidney & Heart failure possibly due to the Chiari malformation. She's pretty scared, but really wants to have surgery for the chiari stuff.
That's awesome that the statistic about new converts made you think of me :D I didn't get to hear that part because we were praying over our lunch. Oh well...I'll live ;)
Love you tons!
Elder Jay Davis
Hey Dad,
I'm glad that there was some excitement for conference weekend. That's crazy that it snowed again! We have had a big rainstorm the past two days but today it's all clear.
I got to watch all of conference except for the statistical report which I was sad about but that's okay. I was eating a yummy lunch. I enjoyed the Priesthood choir as well. I even saw somebody I knew in it. Bekah was in the institute choir...but I didn't see her :(
lol, that's awesome that you thought about me a lot during Conference. I thought about the family a ton while I was watching. I think conference makes me more trunky/homesick than anything else on the mission really lol
I LOVED President Monson's priesthood session talk as well! I liked it a lot.

Hey Mom,
Wow, snow again?! That's crazy. Well I guess we've had some rain so that would make sense that you had snow. That's good that you are getting water, but I'd be tired of snow about now too.
Dinner with the Goforths was great! Thank you so much for the ideas you gave her. She made mashed potatoes, steak, and fruit salad. Then she served cheesecake and vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup for dessert. It was awesome! They really are a cool family. I made them some sour cream cookies as a thank you and they LOVED them! So thanks for sending the recipe a while back ;)
No new investigators this week sadly...works been hard lately. That's typical though, the teaching pool is full, then they get baptized and you have to work really hard to replenish the teaching pool. We are still working with the Tharps and Anthony. Ty has still been out of town for work. He just got back but is leaving again. It is almost for sure that we'll have to postpone his baptism, but I don't have any doubt that he will still get baptized.
That's nice of you and Dad to put so much effort into Kody's Prom. I know you always did for mine too :) I know Kody was extra excited about this one. I'm looking forward to hearing about it in Kody's email.
Sounds like a fun date with the Rowleys :) I am definitely missing watching movies lol. I have heard very good things about Avatar especially in 3D.
Thanks for the letter :) For sending a "quick" letter that was pretty decent sized ;)
Love you tons! Have a great beautiful weather day!
Elder Jay Davis
Hey Dad,
I'm glad you enjoyed reading the emails :D I love reading the emails from the family as well, plus typing the responses is a ton of fun for me.
Dinner was AWESOME! You're right that Spaetzle would have been hard. I was thinking Rouladen would be pretty difficult too! She made steak (not as good as yours but good), mashed potatoes, fruit salad, cheesecake, and ice cream with chocolate syrup! It was really wonderful!
Yeah, I think you're right that music is sort of a dying art and it bums me out too. I heard rumor that people were going to stop making pianos (obviously they won't entirely), but prices could go way high. So hopefully I'll be able to get a good, cheap piano for my house one day ;) I'm not too worried about it, it's high on my priority list regardless of price.
...*sigh*...transfers are April 13th. So we'd find out April 12th and then the actual transfer would be April 13th. You're right, I have come to really love this area and the ward and I have no doubt that it'll be hard for me when I get transferred (which I'm expecting this transfer) and I'm assuming the ward will be disappointed as well. It's been really eating away at me this past week. I've been stressed and worried and minorly depressed to be quite honest lol. I'm sure I'll be excited for whatever the new adventure is, but it's still pretty hard to leave behind something that I've grown to love so much. We'll definitely have to come visit this area on our mission tour ;)
Thank you for the "dad advice" Dad :) I don't think I really hinted too much at how much I don't want to be transferred in my last email, but you were definitely following the Spirit on that one because I needed to hear that. I'm really not looking forward to any place President Pendleton could send me, and I'm afraid I'll get bummer for a companion (pardon the expression). I will do my best to work hard and keep a smile on no matter where I go. Making friends in the ward is something I have learned that I don't have a problem with at all. It's actually my favorite part about the mission. I've found that I just have to use the courtesy and good manners that I was taught by you guys and I always end up being more polite than my companion and (unintentionally) more liked by the members. (I've been pretty disgusted by the rudeness of a majority of missionaries...they haven't really left the world behind...it's a bummer). Anyway, thanks again for the advice. (That's awesome about the baptism too!)
That's awesome that you were able to go spend an awesome weekend with the Rowleys :D I miss seeing them and their kids. I also miss watching movies ;) Oh well, I'll have a lot to look forward to when I get back.
That's awesome that your year of BYU has just flown by. I'm sure it's as weird for you as it is weird for me that time has just been cruising by. Thanks for the Happy Easter wish ;) I am looking forward to General Conference big time. It's definitely one of my highlights on my mission. This'll be my third and only one to go! Crazy huh?!
That sounds like a crazy experience having a ward for only 8 weeks and then having it change around again! I bet moving records around is quite an ordeal!
Thanks for all of your love and support and for the awesome email :D
I am using my talents a lot, cooking, music, etc.
Love you tons!

Hey Mom,
Yeah, I'm not surprised that the weather is hesitant to agree that it's Spring in Utah. The weather seems about like Spring here in California. We've been over 60 many times already :D It's been nice, but I've missed Utah's crazy weather for sure.
Yep, Ty and the Tharps should definitely be exciting! I probably won't be in Loma Rica for the Tharps' baptisms because transfers are the week before. I will just have to wait and see.
Thanks for letting me know that a lot of people have asked about me this week :D That makes me feel good. I don't remember who told me but one of my friends told me how much your face lights up every time somebody asks about me. Hopefully that means you have been smiling a lot this week ;) Tell them all thanks for thinking about me.
Wow! Sounds like a super busy week! I hope you enjoyed being busy. It's nice when it's on occasion and not every day ;)
Hey, I haven't read forward in your email so you may mention this, but what was the conclusion with G-ma and G-pa Johnson? Is the move a go or on hold?
I'm glad that Sister Goforth was able to get in touch with you :) She has this tradition (that started with my companion and I) of calling the missionaries moms and learning how to make their favorite meal. So tonight I will get a surprise meal from home (she wouldn't tell me what you told her to make :D) I'm excited for the surprise. Hopefully none of the emails today let the cat out of the bag ;) I'm glad you enjoy hearing from the people here in California who I associate with :D I'm glad that people are enjoying having my companion and I in the ward. We get many people each week telling us how much they love having us and how we're different than a lot of the missionaries they've had. Some say we've become family. It's awesome!
I will do what I can to keep up the good work. I have no shortage of laughter, and I'm usually smiling :D Thank you for your encouragement Mom :D
I love you tons!
Elder Jay Davis
Hey Dad,
I'm glad the week was a good one. It's nice after having a hard week or two to just have a week that flows better right :D
This week was good for me too. It really flew by. This transfer has been one of long and short weeks. Usually each week is pretty consistent, but last week was long, this past week was fast. I enjoyed my week a lot. We didn't get as many lessons this week due to many cancelled appointments (for schedule reasons, they rescheduled with us so that's good). We still got some great lessons in and some other good stuff happened that I'll make mention of in my family email. I love the ward! It is definitely a great one! I am looking forward to being able to come back and visit all of my areas with you all (if time allows of course).
Go back to Germany as married couples? That would be awesome! Especially if Kody gets married quickly and all of us can go that way! Woot! We can keep our fingers crossed right? ;)
Oh, maybe you meant our missions. I would LOVE that too! I like that goal. That would be easy with my mission, we'll have to see where Kody goes :D I am looking forward to showing you Foresthill and Loma Rica. Hopefully we'll get to take a quick trip shortly after my mission too before I'm married ;)
Thanks for the email. I will include a couple stories in my family email like I said.
Love you tons!
Elder Jay Davis
Hi Everybody,
So this week Dad told me that my emails are sort of like Jigsaw puzzles because I put one or two stories in each email so he has to read everybody's emails to get the full picture. So I figured I'd save the stories for one email.
On Tuesday we reset a baptismal date with Anthony who is the son of Missy who was baptized Feb. 28th. He will be baptized on April 11th, the same day as Ty.
Pete and Mary Lou Littlefield returned from their mission in Africa. They are my great aunt and uncle which I found out while I was on my mission. VERY small world! It was fun to meet them. My mom said they might not have been themselves because of jet lag and what not. I think that Sister Littlefield was so pumped to see everybody that she was pretty much herself. She seemed very peppy just like Mom described her. Elder Littlefield (they hadn't been released yet) seemed a little...lot...more tired, but a happy fellow. Sister Littlefield was excited to hear that I can play the piano and couldn't help but brag to one of the members standing by that HER side of the family is VERY musically talented ;) It made me smile! I look forward to swapping memories of people we both know.
I don't know that there has been a lot of other exciting stuff this week. My email time is nearly up too.
Love you all,
Elder Jay Davis

Hey Dad,
I'm glad the week was a good one.

Hi Everybody,
So this week Dad told me that my emails are sort of like Jigsaw puzzles because I put one or two stories in each email so he has to read everybody's emails to get the full picture. So I figured I'd save the stories for one email.

lol, I know the feeling of finishing your emails being like finishing a good book and not wanting it to be over. My hour being up is a lot like a good book being over too. Luckily I am able to look forward to a good book each week ;)
Yep, Sacrament meeting last week was definitely wonderful. Then in priesthood this week we had John and Jairiko who both received the priesthood. Awesome! The success is awesome but I'm really not going to credit much of the success to myself. Really it's the ward putting forth the effort. We are just teaching ;)
Yep, we committed the Tharps to baptism, and they will be baptized April 18th. Unfortunately that is after transfers which means I'll probably have to miss that one, but that's okay. Maybe I'll stay another transfer but that would be HIGHLY unlikely. I wouldn't mind it at all though.
That's awesome that lunch with Caitlin went well.
Thanks for the email :D I am feeling great and having a blast. This week went by really fast and was altogether very enjoyable.
Love you tons!

Hey Dad,
That's awesome that you have had snow this weekend! I miss that a lot :D That's good that the white will be gone, I bet you are all ready for it to dissipate for a while ;)
That's awesome that you've got the glider in working order. I didn't remember the windshield wiper motor as part of the launcher, but now that I think about it I remember. I just remembered the bicycle one.
Jairiko and John both received the priesthood yesterday which was way exciting! John and Dee are in the process of getting ready to do baptisms for the dead. They just need an interview and somebody to show them the ropes.
That's fine, I can wait until next week for the picture of the Berlin ladies :D I just figure it'll be something funny to share with people around me.
Love ya!

Hello Family,
So this week was wonderful. We taught a kid...19 or 20...named Ty...a referral from a member. We taught him Monday...set up a return appointment...then taught him Thursday. On Thursday we committed him to baptism and he accepted for April 11th! SOOO exciting! I will keep you posted on how his lessons are going. He's out of town for work for the next couple weeks so nothing will happen for a bit.
Then on Friday we met with a couple named the Tharps. We committed them to baptism as well which they also accepted. They will be baptized on April 18th! Member referrals work! Work with your non-member friends however few they may be in Utah ;) I am so proud of the Loma Rica ward right now!
The work is great, I am out of time, but nothing super exciting has happened. Oh! The bishop, Bishop Staples, and his wife Sister Staples said to tell Mom and Dad, but all of you deserve credit...that they are glad to have me (and my companion) in the ward and that you did a great job in raising your son. Thank you for helping me be who I am so that you and I can receive compliments like that. They wanted to call you but weren't sure if they were allowed. I told them they were but they didn't seem like they were going to end up doing it.
Anyway, love you all.

Elder Jay Davis
Dear Grandma and Grandpa,
This week has been fabulous! Thank you. That's wonderful that Grandpa was able to put on a regular shoe :D I bet that would be such a relief! I know when I get to wear jeans on Preparation Day it is AWESOME after wearing my suit stuff every day.
Yep, weather in Utah is bizarre but amazing. I love it!
lol, yeah, I've actually heard of a LOT of occassions where the baptismal font didn't get filled with water...not good. That's awesome that Matthew got baptized though! Time really does fly by! I remember when he was born and now he's baptized...weird for me!
Yesterday, our two male recent converts, John and Jairiko, received the Aaronic Priesthood which was AWESOME! I just love watching people progress in the gospel and life in general.

Hi Mom,
I know! I can hardly believe it! A year feels like forever! I am so excited!
I'm glad I didn't get transferred too! I am definitely happy with where I am at.
I know! I was so excited to perform Jairiko's baptism! Thanks for being excited for me :D Yes, the baptism was my first that I've performed. Yep, pretty neat to be able to wear the same pants Dad wore on his mission :D Sentimentality is definitely an interesting thing.
Things with the Lucas' went well, they did find a house but couldn't get out of their lease agreement, but we worked through the stake and things are good. I'll send an email to the family and talk more about it.
The Tharps are still progressing well, haven't met with them for a while because of their schedule, but we will meet them this Friday and we plan to commit them to baptism!
My health is great. An occassional cough, but it's pretty much all the way gone.
Yes, I got the memory card in the package! I can't believe I forgot to mention that! I LOVED the pictures on the memory card! Those pictures from Seth's farewell and the picture with you and Lyndsay are AWESOME! Thank you!
You got Family Feud on the Wii?! That sounds like a blast! You and I will have to play that when I get home...although you'll probably know all of the answers by then :P ;) Anyway, that sounds like a sweet project, that's nice of you to take the time to do it so that the family reunion will be a good time.
I haven't really had a lot of contact with Sister Smith recently, but I will make sure I get in touch with her and mention that you are curious and see how things are going.
Thanks for the email. Love you tons!
Oh, I have a ton of cheddar cheese because I bought a block of it for grilled cheese sandwiches but I'm tired of those. You should send me ideas and recipes that use cheddar cheese. Thanks :D

Elder Jay Davis
Hey Dad,
I'm glad you enjoyed hearing about the baptisms and the pants ;) I thought that was pretty darn cool too!
I hope I can come up with some really great stories to tell also! lol, I'll make sure they are true ;) I have some stuff that I can talk about, but I'm going to send it in an email to the whole family.
lol, that's kinda funny that Kody didn't remember the glider or the launcher. Do you still have the launcher or does Jake have it? If you have it, do you have a bike to run it with? I do remember you putting the little tiny engine on it! I'm jealous that you got it out and got it running. I was always trying to convince you to get those things running :P My project I want to work on with you when I get home is the Putt-Putt! That would be lots of fun!
That's awesome that you are going to go get a buddy cord too...that way he won't crash it like I did with the styrofoam glider we made ;) (And my Orange plane...it isn't too bad though, just a knick in the wing which isn't too detramental)
Yeah, I was excited not to be transferred too. I will be ready to leave after this transfer but I sure didn't want to leave before this transfer. I am excited to be able to meet the Littlefields and hopefully witness a couple more baptisms!
The Disney skits sound like what Concert Choir did at our social before the school year started! It was SOOOOOO much fun! I'm jealous! I'll be looking forward to the update :D
I was wondering if you could send me an attachment of the picture of the ladies on the moped in Berlin as well as a printed copy sometime. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the attachment onto my flash drive to take it to Walmart to print it off, so that is why I want both forms. Thanks.

Hey all,
This week we had the baptisms of the Lucas'! Awesome! Then Sunday we had the confirmations of Missy and her son Jairiko, and then also the confirmations of the Lucas'! It was a cool Sacrament meeting. I confirmed Sis. Lucas which was scary scary scary, but lots of fun! It went well.
We are teaching the Tharps again this Friday and plan to commit them to baptism.
I am excited to meet the Littlefields. They get home on the 20th of March.
I think all in all things are going well and I don't have a ton of new news.
