February 8, 2010

Hey Mom,

Yep, we have lots of investigators. It's awesome! They are moving along great. The meeting on Friday went great. They came to church again, we meet with them tomorrow. They are progressing really well. We are pretty sure we've found a house for the Lucas' and they should be getting baptized within the next few weeks. Woot! Dinner with the Tharps is this coming Thursday so I'll let you know how it goes. We should hopefully be able to start teaching them. We'll see.

I'm glad you loved watching the videos. I feel dorky but I send them anyway so no worries. HAHAHA I had forgotten about the cooking video that Aaron and I made, I need to watch that again! Yeah, I had some cooked before the video. The funny thing is that I didn't do that intentionally, I had just already made those before I came up with the idea to make a video.

That's awesome that Grandma and Grandpa made on offer on a house. Man, she needs to stop having second thoughts. This would be awesome!

That's good that our neighbors seem more friendly now. That's...interesting that they are starting up a baptist church there...in Santaquin? That's weird. I'm glad they are christian too.

That's awesome that you had the ladies day out. Sounds fun.

That's good that you ended up going out with the Baxters. :D That's awesome that they got my letter and asked about me :D I can't believe Brooklyn is 12! WOAH! I could tell she was wearing make up ;)

Love you tons.

Oh Sis. Hungridge (the Camptonville Branch President's wife) says that I need to commend you for making sure I stuck with practicing the piano because it has paid off. She said you deserve ALL the credit for my talent. I was proud that she complimented my mom but a bit annoyed that she credited my talent to you ;) I mean God gave me that and I worked at it on my own for a lot. However, she is right that if it weren't for you I never would have made it to where I am now. So thanks Mom!

Okay, Love you tons,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey Dad,

That's awesome that everything went according to plan for the super bowl :D I already finished my clam dip (I made it a week or so ago) it was really yummy. I missed the guacamole but had 7 layer dip at a member's house. I really wish I could have had the lil' smokies ;) Sounds like a blast.

Thanks for the update on the game :D Sounds really intense and sounds like Collie did a really good job. Zero drops is always a perk.

WOAH! YOU GOT A SIGNED AUSTIN COLLIE JERSEY! lol, it's typical of you to double their bid (since it was a benefit auction)! I love you :D I'm super excited to see the framed jersey when I get home!

I missed being their for the superbowl, I bet it was wicked awesome in HD on the Giant TV!

This week is going to be awesome, busy, and productive. I am very excited. I can't believe it's already week 4 of the transfer! I mean in just 3 weeks I will have been out a year. (about three weeks) Awesome! I hope your week is awesome too...to be honest I really don't have very many interesting stories to tell this week. I'll keep thinking about it and maybe send a general email to the family.

Love you tons!

Hey Mom,

While I'm thinking about it...that cake you made was AWESOME! Did you use the stuff where it prints on like edible paper or something? That was way cool. I liked the controller, I bet that was way challenging. It looked awesome.

I'm glad you enjoyed all of the photos even though they weren't spectacular. I'm glad you enjoyed the Christmas morning video.

That's awesome about Josh :D I'm excited for him and Nels both! WOOT!

I heard about the Payson temple from some members and thought it was a joke but had another member look it up online and found out it's true! I'm SOOOOOOO excited! I was going to ask about the size so that's good that you told me they haven't announced which kind it'll be. Oh wow, so it'll be even closer to our house than I thought! I am soooo pumped! Do they have an approximation of when construction will begin and end? Thanks for the information! I'm so excited!

That's pretty funny that the school kids had to dodge all of the deer droppings on the sidewalk! I love seeing deer. I miss Foresthill because we saw them ALL the time! There's not as much wildlife here even though we're still up in the hills. There are a TON of skunks though! I've only seen a couple live ones, most of them are dead on the road. There a lot of the dead ones, that's for sure!

That's okay, I like hearing about regular home life even if it's the same stuff ;)

Love you tons!

Elder Jay Davis

Happy Birthday Dad!

You are welcome for the birthday note and pictures...I sent a couple b-day cards...have you received them? I hope so. I'm glad that you think I look great.

I'm glad you enjoyed the craw-dad scene. Are you sure we over cooked them? We had no idea what we were doing. We just thought that they'd turn red like lobster. Oh well, they still tasted good.

That's a bummer that you had problems at work on Friday and Saturday and didn't get much of a chance to celebrate your birthday. Grandma said you did get to go to Tepanyaki...YUM!

lol, Mom sent me a picture of the cake they made for you! It was AWESOME! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Speaking of Ghost Recon, Mom says you are really obssessed with it lately :D That made me smile! I don't blame you at all. I mean with a 55" HDTV how could you not want to play it?! Plus it's a good relief of stress after work ;)

That's awesome that Kody got his patriarchal blessing and that you watched all of my pictures and videos together as a family. Did you hook it up to the big screen? ;)

I'm glad you liked watching the Christmas morning video. Wait...I was tired? I think I was just talking quietly because my companion was still in bed. So I didn't want to wake him up and at the first when I was sitting by the tree opening presents, I was sitting right by the bedroom. I guess I did yawn a lot, but I was actually not as tired as I usually am ;) I'm happy to know that you liked watching it all the same ;)

This week is going amazing! You'll be proud, I saved my cool stories for the week to write in your email! Thanks for letting me know about Josh's call by the way! I'm very excited for him! That's also cool that you were close with country and language, but I guess it makes sense that if Aunt Lynette put a city then she would be the most accurate. Ah well.

Okay, so back to why this week has been so amazing. So yesterday we were at church and I had to get up to use the restroom. So my companion and I snuck out of the chapel and I used the restroom. When I came out one of the members was talking to my companion in the hallway (she thought that we were leaving and she wanted to catch us before we did). Anyway, she asked us if we could cancel our dinner appointment and come to their house for dinner because they were going to be having some non-members over for dinner that had expressed an interest in our church (in fact the mom was at church that day and the week before) (it was a mom and two sons). They knew that the missionaries would be there so they wouldn't be surprised. Well neither of us really wanted to cancel our dinner because it's one of our favorite families and we only get to go once a month, but we knew it was the right thing to do so we cancelled our dinner (luckily they understood) and planned to go to the Bischoff home (the ones that invited us of course). Well we had a wonderful dinner with great conversation. Then after dinner we had the opportunity to share a quick message about eternal families and the Proclamation on Families from the Church. After the short lesson we asked if she would be interested in us continuing to teach her and what not and she said of course and that she wanted to make sure her two sons were there for the lessons (they were there for this one). So we set up an appointment for this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and got her number and gave her ours. So we picked up THREE new investigators! We are SOO very excited. She really seems like she's ready to be baptized and so does one of her sons, the other one will be a tougher nut to crack though.

THEN! The Lucas' are the ones that live in Davis. They are ready to be baptized but want to be in the Loma Rica ward and can't be baptized into it until they live in it (or are for sure moving up here). So we've been house hunting, along with them and the ward, for a house. Well there is a house that seems to be a VERY good possibility so we are very excited about that.

Yet another exciting prospect...there is a family that I've probably mentioned, the Tharps. They are not members, but their son just recently joined the church in another ward. Well he has been bringing his parents to church and they seem like they are already members. They love it. Well he went back to his normal ward but they have continued coming to our ward! They really are "dry Mormons" and we are confident that once we begin teaching them (that's the other thing, they're coming on their own, we've never taught them, and that's a very long story as to why not) they will be baptized quickly. Also, they invited us over for dinner next week so we are VERY excited for that and we're hoping that'll be our opening to begin teaching them.

I could go on and on. We have a TON of prospects all of a sudden so we're hoping that within the next month or two we can have FIVE or SIX baptisms! VERY exciting!

I am doing very well, I'm happy, healthy, and definitely having a great time. I hope you are as well.

lol, I'm glad you liked my laugh in the videos...I feel dorky when I go back and watch my videos...but oh well.

Love you back,

Elder Jay Davis

January 25, 2010

Hi Mom,

I wasn't affected by transfers.

Yeah, I was thinking I will give it to Sister Lucas (the investigator that lives in Davis that we are working on getting moved up here...just gotta find a place for her and her husband to live up here). She goes to the book store in Sacramento/Roseville ALL the time. She is always buying all sorts of stuff, so I'm sure she'd love a hymn book that she could include in her scripture case.

Um...no, we usually don't make ourselves good breakfasts...on occasion I will spend the time to make eggs. I make German pancakes in the evening and then reheat them the next morning. So they last me for quite a while. I usually just have a bowl of cereal or some fruit...sometimes a poptart. I just never want to spend the effort to make breakfast. We go to members' houses for dinners most nights. This past (fiscal) month has been relatively slow for dinners with a lot of cancellations (sp?) due to health, but it's not bad.

Yep, it was cool seeing the coyote except I just about hit it which would have been bad. It was darting across the street. They are around our house a lot I think...we hear them at night when we are trying to go to sleep and they sound like they are pretty close. Luckily we have dogs around our house too so hopefully that'll deter them ;) I would imagine that hearing them while camping would be WAY worse!

Yep, football was fun :D I was pumped that I caught the touchdown pass...I usually break under pressure and drop the ball, even though I can catch when there's no pressure. So I was glad that the quarterback was really good and set it up just right.

I'm glad you like reading about me trying to love the people. I mean, you know I haven't been the most patient person in the past so I'm trying really really hard to be more patient. I don't feel I've had a hard time loving people though. Who knows.

Yep, very wet windy weather. Everything has mostly subsided, but we are still getting a fairly consistent drizzle and mild winds on and off. It hasn't been all that cold. There hasn't been any flooding other than large puddles as far as I'm aware. So that's good.

I am definitely happy, healthy, and warm. Hopefully you are feeling likewise.

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey Dad,

This week was pretty good. I have enjoyed myself that's for sure. I'm glad to hear that your week went quite well.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in Park City. I'm sure it was nice to have a few days to just relax. Watching snowboarders on the halfpipe is really cool, they are nuts! Of course I can remember Shaun White from the olympics :D The flying tomato! He is definitely the best that's for sure. (lol, my memory is fading, but I remember most of the big things ;))

That's nice that you were able to just come home and relax for a bit on Sunday. That's SWEET that Austin Collie did so well. The members we had dinner with last night were watching the game before we came for dinner (We saw it on the TV as we knocked on the door). He was telling us that Austin Collie was getting a lot of action. 127 yds and a TD is more than a lot of action ;) Yay for the Colts winning!

Colts and Saints for the Superbowl! YES! I called the Colts and I think I might have even called the Saints...WOOT! That will be one heck of a game! lol, I will definitely miss the decorated table, dinner, clam dip (which you should send me the rough measurements for because I've been craving making some.), and commercials.

Well I'm not really sure of what to write about this week...no really interesting stories...at least none that I can think of right now. If I think of some I'll send them in a family email.

Love you tons!

Elder Jay Davis

January 19, 2010

Hey Mom,

I am glad that you can find excitement in Jodi getting baptized too. It's definitely good that she was able to grow from the interview experience just like you and Dad predicted. I know! I was so stoked that her husband was there (Norm is his name). I think there is a chance he'll gain a testimony of God and the Church but I would venture to say it'll be many years down the road. Yeah, Latrell was the slacker, videogamer son of Delores and now he's made lots of changes and is baptized...AWESOME!

Okeedokey, was I able to tell you my other fun story for the week? Maybe it was Jodi...I can't remember. Alright, I'll just answer the cues that you gave me. (You'll have to just share these with the family, I don't want to have to duplicate)

Our new apartment...I haven't measured it but I'd say it's maybe...30 ft. X 20 ft. (I'll measure and find out for sure) It's very small but fun to live in. The quirks...we don't have a toilet paper holder, it's been ripped out of the wall multiple times it looks like lol. We just set the toilet paper on the back of the toilet. The shower leaks so we have to put a towel on the floor. The bathroom only has a sliding door with no handle or lock and definitely not sound proof so you have to turn the fan on to try to cover up the noise lol. The stove is this little teeny tiny thing but still has four burners and the oven (part of the stove) is just barely big enough to be able to fit a 9 X 13 pan in it (to make German Pancakes, lol) So far we really haven't had any run-ins with creatures at the apartment. We had mosquitoes for a while but they have dissipated. We did see a coyote driving home the other night! I hadn't ever seen one in real life before. The land lady is an awesome person. She makes sure that we have our mail whenever it comes in and she is just very nice. Oh, another quirk, when we first moved in the sink wouldn't drain and the garbage disposal was jammed, so she called a plumber who came and unclogged the pipes and replaced the disposal which was broken, not just jammed.

Okay, details about the first annual Mormon Bowl...we had shirts as I said. The missionaries who organized it had divided the zone into two teams that were relatively even with skill and athletics. Then when we ordered our shirts they got two different color schemes of the same shirt to divide up the teams. Mine is blue and white, the other team was black and yellow (looks like the Steelers). I think I told you about how the shirts look already. Okay, so the Mormon Bowl we played on a turf field at one of the high schools which obviously wasn't in school because of the holidays. I ran and ran and ran as receiver (pretty much everybody was receiver since it was flag football and we didn't have a "line"). By the end of the day my knees were killing me, but I still had fun and after a day or two it was back to normal. Um...what else is there to say really? I don't even remember who won because we didn't keep very good score. I did catch a touchdown pass! (Thanks to a good quarterback who insisted on throwing to me lol)

My companion is pretty good. He struggles with seeing the good in situations and seeing the positives about people from humble circumstances. I just have a really hard time because it doesn't seem like he has charity at all. I know I'm not perfect, but I really try to love the people and my companions and it seems he sort of looks for the negatives about everybody around him. So I have a hard time dealing with his lack of humility and charity, but other than that I really enjoy serving with him.

I'm glad you enjoy my style of writing. I haven't ever really understood why you always compliment me on how well I am able to express myself, but maybe it's just because I'm long-winded ;) Thank you for your emails. I really enjoy reading them :D

Thanks for the encouragement :D I love you too!

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey Dad,

I KNOW! It made me SOOOOO mad that your email got horked up AGAIN! I just wanted to yell :P Oh well. I promise it's not intentional lol. It's just terrible luck. Luckily for you the email I retyped was basically the same just slightly more rushed.

That sounds fun going to the Sprint event at Park City. I'm sure you'll have a blast. I told a whole bunch of info on the house and stuff in Mom's email because she gave me cues on what to answer lol. So hopefully she'll share that. Sorry, I'll try to put more of my fun stories in your emails in the future. I feel like I give you the short end of the stick.

I will certainly have a great week. It's raining and raining and raining and raining and raining! It's supposed to rain for two weeks straight. Tons of moisture, lots of wind up to 100 MPH, and snow in the higher altitudes. Quite a crazy storm with lots of flood watches for next week. Should be way fun, don't worry though.

Love you tons!

January 11, 2010

Hey Dad,

Gosh dang it! I just wrote a whole email and the server messed up for MyLDSMail. I'll have to retype it, but I promise I put more effort into it than it appears.

I got the Santa letter, it was fine from Mrs. Claus, though I recognized the different handwriting ;)

I appreciate what you said about the chiari malformation situation. I'm sure you two will be a great support to the Smith's in helping them decide what the best course of action is for them. So do you think Mom'll be up to rollercoasters when I get home? ;)

I definitely had a good week. Thank you for your constant prayers. I have no problem loving the people I serve, loving those I serve with is harder but I can still do it.

What earthquake? Does that answer your question? ;) lol, I haven't heard of an earthquake until just now. So no need to worry about me. Where in NorCal was it?

The apartment is definitely small, but it's a ton of fun to live in. We don't have cockroaches thankfully, just mosquitoes (which we are slowly getting rid of) and on rare occasions an ant or two.

I will have a great week, you too.

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

Hi Mom,

We have pretty much gotten everything moved but we haven't had a chance to get everything cleaned, we've talked to Bro. Littlefield and he said that he's in no hurry. We're still trying to hurry though. Okay, for my fun story I will answer the things you mentioned, however, I'll just do it in a general email to the family after responding to this. I have other stuff to tell you as well.

Ammon Hansen (Caitlin's brother) sent me a letter recently. That kid is awesome, I've only been to his house twice and we're like best buds.

Okay, we have a couple good investigators. Dee, the lady we've been teaching who lives in Davis, is really considering moving up here. She is looking for rentals and everything and working with the bishop here. She is pretty much integrated into the ward already as is her husband. So she'll probably be able to get baptized into our ward within the next couple months, hopefully before I leave. Also, there is a kid who just recently got baptized in the singles ward and he and his parents live in our ward boundaries. He has been coming to our ward and bringing his parents with him. They are totally dry Mormons. Everybody asks if they are members and when we say no they are shocked. We haven't started teaching them yet, but it's our plan, just waiting for the son to give us word. They've pretty much discussed baptism already even lol. So we have a few different people (including a couple I didn't list) that are doing pretty well. It's just hard to stay busy all day, but we do our best. The area is definitely slower than a lot.

Have fun in St. George. That's SOOOO exciting that Grandpa is supposed to be able to get his teeth tomorrow. I really hope they work for him too :D I'm sure he loved the ice cream and soup, but to have that be all you eat would be quite a pain in the rear! I'm way happy for him.

Grandma sent me a card for my birthday. She does REALLY well at writing to her missionary grandsons, tell her that at least one of us is very pleased with what she does.

HAHAHA That cracks me up that she liked the way I set up her TV better than the way the cable guy did it :D Thanks for the story :)

I still don't have the Smith's number....AHHH!!! I'll send you a letter with it if nothing else! Gosh, I'm mad at myself. The phone is in the car and it would take too much time to go get. Be patient with me. I told them a little bit about you but I didn't mention that I might have you call. I'm sure they'd be fine with it if you explained who you are. I'll see if I can't tell them before you call. You never told me about the possible personality changes. I haven't noticed any changes in your personality. Well strokes are relatively avoidable compared to personality changes lol.

Better hurry and write a family email!

Love ya,

Elder Jay Davis

Hi Family,

Well I only have ten minutes!

Basically to sum it up...JODI GOT BAPTIZED!!! It was so amazing to attend her baptism yesterday. She even requested to get up after her baptism and share a few remarks. She talked about how grateful she had come to be for what Elder A. did because it helped her find her testimony better and have much more joy than she would have before. It was AMAZING! She also got her miracle of having her husband there to watch. (He was atheist, then agnostic, but he had said he wouldn't go inside any church or it would crumble...the church is still standing) It was awesome.

Also, Delores' son, Latrell, got baptized the same day. That was INCREDIBLE! He has made a lot of changes in his life to get to this point!

Sorry Mom, I don't have time to respond to the questions you asked in your email for my fun story, will you please copy and paste those into your next email so I don't forget? Thanks.

My computer freaked out a bit ago and that's why I'm running so short on time.

Love you all,

Elder Jay Davis

January 4, 2010

Hey Dad!

lol, I'm looking forward to the reply from Santa. I hope you enjoyed the letter. I really tried to stick to as many traditions as I could this Christmas even though I was away from home. I thought it would also act as a good little Christmas present for you since I know how much you love doing Santa letters on Christmas Eve.

That's funny that you weren't expecting emails. Things are a lot different than when you were out. We get to email pretty much every week that I'm aware of. I'm glad that it was a pleasant surprise for you :)

Yeah, I am most definitely happy that Jodi is back going to church and hopefully the struggles will strengthen her testimony.

lol, isn't it weird how time sort of warps? Like you said, sometimes when I look back on my mission it feels like it's been the blink of an eye, sometimes it feels like it's been an eternity. If I look at what day of the week it is, it feels like forever, but if I look how many days are behind me, it feels like a breeze.

lol, getting back to normal after a holiday is never easy, except for the fact that we are sort of forced to do it which helps right? ;)

I've had a fabulous week, and I'll do my best to stay warm, it hasn't been hard lately. I should be telling you to stay warm ;)

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

Dear Mom,

Yup, we have been in the new apartment since Friday night. We are still in the process of getting the last of our odds and ends moved out of the Littlefield's, plus we have to clean it all out, but we are moved in. Still trying to get everything organized though. The new place is good. It's really small but really fun to live in. Lots of mosquitos and some occasional ants, but all in all I really like it.

I'm glad to hear that we are both basically over our colds :) It's quite a relief that's for sure. Yeah, I hope we don't have the same problem as Dad. He's always sick, poor guy. Stress'll do that to you.

Yep, I am VERY happy to know that Jodi is going to church. It is just more proof to me that she has more of a testimony than she realizes.

New Year's Eve...nope...boring. I bought a bottle of Martinelli's and had some of that, which was fun. That's about all. That's awesome that Kody was able to hang out with friends and you and Dad ate at Mi Ranch and saw Avatar. People are just RAVING about that movie. Aparantely (I can never spell that word) the special effects are amazing! I'm looking forward to catching up on everything when I return.

New Year's Day was fun, we had the first annual Mormon Bowl where we had shirts made and everything (it was organized by us missionaries for our zone). We played on one of the high school's field that has turf, it was awesome! I was VERY sore the next couple of days and my knee (right) was KILLING me! It's better now though, no worries.

I know the feeling of being ready to get back to the norm. Even on my mission, the past few weeks have made me feel really unproductive and not much like a missionary, so it's good to get back to missionary work.

That's AWESOME that you got to play a few duets with Aunt Jennifer, I bet that was tons of fun.

It's so weird seeing all of my close friends getting married. (or hearing about it) I'm not going to have any friends who can just hang out when I get home lol.

Love you!

Elder Jay Davis

Dear Family,

I am sorry but I can't really think of any fun experiences I've had this week. My apartment is pretty funny because the stove is like this tiny little thing and a half-sized oven thing. I'll have to take a video of the apartment for when I send the card home (within the next week cuz it's full). The apartment presents some pretty funny situations but it's really fun to live in.

I know some people in the branch that we cover who told me that they have chiari malformations! (Mother and son) Mom, you should totally figure out a way to get in touch with them...I don't have their number on me...but they are trying to decide what to do about it because they heard bad stuff about the surgery and how it affects your personality and stuff. Uh...I'll try to get it to you.

I am really loving the members.

Have a good week.

Elder Jay Davis

December 31, 2009

Hey Dad,

I'm glad you enjoyed talking to me on Christmas. I sure enjoyed talking with the family. I missed you all a lot this Christmas too, but the members made sure we had a great time.

That's pretty funny that I sound older and mature, I don't feel it lol ;)

By the way, sorry for email so stinkin' late! The mission changed up our weekly schedule because of New Year's Eve and Day. We had full proselyting days Monday-Wednesday. Then today is half P-day and weekly planning and tomorrow is district meeting and the other half of P-day. Confusing stuff! Ahh well, it'll work out.

I am happy to have all the experiences that I do as well! I'm sure that they'll all have a positive impact on my life in some way. By the way, Jodi is coming to church again(the one I told you about the baptismal interview) and she knows that the mission president has given his blessing for her to be baptized. So I'm sure it'll happen soon.

That's good that you had a really good Christmas! It sounded like lots of fun! I'm sorry to hear you have yet another cold, or still have it ;)

I would imagine that you two would have played tons of video games on the TV. I'm super jealous but I am excited to be able to come back and play on it :) Can you believe I've been out over 9 1/2 months?! Wow...crazy.

Hahaha, that's the problem with calling home, you don't have anything to email about, but I can't complain, I'd take a phonecall over an email any day ;)

I'm sure I'll have a fabulous week. Hopefully you have had a good week thus far.

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

Hi Mom,

lol, Dad was having a hard time coming up with things to write about too. I definitely know how home is during the Christmas season. I miss getting to play piano duets with you still. I'm glad that things have been typical and uneventful.

That's awesome that you went up to Aunt Colleen's. I am glad to hear that I'm not the only one that causes us to take two cars ;) Sounds like a GENIUS dinner for such a family get-together :D Sounds like it was a BLAST!

I agree, talking on Christmas was awesome! I'm glad that things at home are good. Thank you for being proud of me. I am grateful for the efforts you put into Christmas, I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for Clay's address, I'm excited to write him again.

My cold is basically gone, sniffles here and there but that's it.

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

December 21, 2009

Hey Dad,

Yeah, I was excited about the baptisms. Unfortunately the one that was supposed to happen yesterday didn't. I'll have to explain that one over the phone on Christmas.

That's awesome that your trip to Argentina went really well!I bet it was hot! That's really weird that it's summer time down there!

Christmas I'll probably just call at 9:30 California time from the Littlefields' phone. I could just call in to that conference bridge if you want. That would be awesome. I'm down with that. So I will call in at 9:30.

Hopefully Grandpa is doing well.

My companion likes sports for fun. He's not musical in the least. He likes heavy rap and nasty music like that :P But that's okay, we get along just fine. I can't really think of any interesting stories this week, but I'll save up stories for Christmas ;) I haven't had a chance to do any baptismal interviews. I'll let you know when I do.

I'm very excited to talk with you on Christmas too! I hope I have lots to talk about ;) I don't mind just chit-chat :) I am sure we'll be able to make conversation last as long as we want.

Merry Christmas Dad!

Love,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey Mom,

I would say we have some good investigators but to be honest the work is REALLY slow in this area so it's kind of frustrating trying to stay busy all day everyday when tracting is almost impossible and we have so few people to teach, but we do our best. I'm glad you like to hear about them. No real updates right now.

I am excited for the Christmas call too. Thanks again for the Christmas things :D I'm loving getting them! It's lots of fun. They are coming in order even if they sometimes get delayed because of weekends and what not. I've been receiving them in order but not one each day, but close :) The rocky road was great, I haven't really eaten much yet to be honest, I need to eat more.

hahaha that's funny that you aren't going to comment yet. I have received as of right now up to day 8 I think...yeah, that's probably right. I have the tie, the Pez refills, the laser light, etc.

It sounds like you are the one holding Christmas together for the family in this really busy time ;) Good job!

Love you tons!

Mom,

First off, this computer is really slow and crappy so hopefully all goes well with emailing today.

My week has been really good. It has been very stressful and hectic but things are going great. We are going to pick up a new investigator who already wants to be baptized because she's taken lessons in the past so that's exciting. I've been able to settle in pretty well I'd say. My companion is from Fruit Heights, Utah up by Kaysville. He and I get along because we are both willing to accept that we have different interests. I like him all in all though so that's good.

This week we were able to teach 16 lessons total. Much better even though it didn't seem like we taught that many. We haven't been able to get back to see James and Alex again so I'll have to let you know next week. Well the R.S. president's husband lives the life of a member but just doesn't want to make the commitment to come to church and of course doesn't feel like he's received a witness.

That's awesome that you've received 2 feet of snow! Holy COW! We've had snow up in our area but above where we live. That's a bummer that you haven't had the accumulation of 2 feet. That is always a plus when they keep the roads clear. Too bad the ones on the bench aren't good.

I'm not upset that I don't have to drive in it or that I don't have to tract in it, I just miss the look. You're right though, I'll definitely look more at the blessings of not having snow. It has rained the past three days straight and just barely stopped today. CRAZY! I am staying warm pretty well, I think the only things that don't seem to stay consistently warm are my toes but that's okay. I should be okay, maybe some black wool socks or something, but it hasn't been bad.

I'm not 100% sure on Christmas Day but that is something that I wanted to discuss with you. I was thinking that I'd probably do it in the morning before our breakfast with the Littlefields at 10:30. If that's too early then we could reschedule, otherwise something like 10 Utah time and 9 my time would probably be a great time to call. Then Elder Smith would do his in the afternoon since he has older siblings who won't be available until later anyway. Email back and let me know.

I bet that was awesome having the choir sing at the school. I really tried hard to get her to go to that school when I was in but it didn't happen, ah well. That's cool that Dad'll be in Argentina but a bummer it'll be over the concert.

That sounds like a ton of fun caroling in the freezing cold and then stopping by for hot chocolate. That sounds like you guys to provide it for them :D

I definitely need to do better at my letter writing! That's something I've been working on the past week. I've had some companions that have made it very difficult, but now things should go more smoothly. I'm doing my best. Send my apologies to everybody. I feel really bad. (Plus I really miss hearing from the people I love).

Speaking of which, thank you so much for the Christmas gifts you are sending me :) They are really fun to get.

Well I loved reading this lengthy letter. It only took me half of my time ;) (Well that included the really long time getting in to my email with this stupid computer)

I think I'll treat Dad to some of my stories this time if you don't mind.

Love you tons!

Hey Dad,

The first week as district leader went great. Nothing too stressful in that regard. Taking over the area is far more stressful. That's good that you got a letter from President Pendleton.

I'm excited to be senior comp as well. Thanks for your vote of confidence.

Yeah, the flight is always the worst part when it's for business meetings and when it's super long. Argentina should be fun though. That's really crazy that it takes longer to get to Argentina!

That should be sweet to watch that soccer game, sounds like a hoot! Wow, those will be WAY long days!

I have started receiving my 12 days of Christmas! I started getting them early, but with weekends and the Christmas holidays it should actually be perfect. I'm enjoying them a lot so far :D I will definitely have fun with the different Christmas. I am not worried about any spectacular gifts so don't worry Dad. You always say that and I always get surprised with AWESOME gifts. That's hilarious, I had forgotten the story about you getting your gifts out of order from your mom. Your mom really is amazing. So is mine! (And my dad)

I have very little doubt that Mom has put tons and tons of thought into my Christmas, I'm sure you have too. I really miss Mom too, though I definitely miss you all :) I miss playing music too. I also miss going to work with you and asking you lots and lots of questions about computers ;)

Okay, so this should have been in Mom's email but too late now. If you could help me get Clay's mission address that would be awesome!

Also, I would really like the recipe for cake mix cookies.

Okay, I think that's about all.

I love you tons,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey All,

Well I forgot to mention that yesterday Marcella finally got baptized! YES!!!! It was so powerful and I had the privilege of attending it. What a great experience. I don't have pictures yet, but I will do my best to get them to you once I get them.

I definitely know the Church is true. It's amazing to see that in other peoples' faces.

Also, Jodi is getting baptized next Sunday! WOW! I love seeing the fruits of labors, even if I've left the area. What a joy!

Love you all,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey Mom,

Yep, that's the case, the Littlefields will be home in March and they will be having us move probably very very soon, but that's okay. We already knew that, but thanks for filling me in. I could definitely be in the area. Transfers were today and I didn't get moved but I'm getting a new companion tomorrow named Elder Kyle Smith. He came out in June which makes me senior companion! That means I get to drive, YES! Also...I'm now district leader! CRAZY! We'll see how well I do!

We were able to teach 14 lessons this week which isn't fabulous but it is better than last week and this week felt like we were a lot more busy and productive which is what is really important. We picked up two new investigators this week. James and his girlfriend Alex seem very interested and very open. He is excited to read the Book of Mormon and before we could commit him to do so he said he was going to. So I have a lot of confidence that he will come to a knowledge of the truthfulness of the Church and be baptized. There's another guy, Ron, who's wife is relief society president. He's not a member, but he doesn't see any faults with the Church, I think the main problem is that he just doesn't feel like he "KNOWS" when really he doesn't need to have a 100% knowledge that it's true. We committed him to baptism but he turned us down for that reason, but he seems like he's really really close.

I'm soooooo jealous that you got to have the Chamber Singers perform for you at the Relief Society party. I'm really jealous of Kody right now too, this was the best time of the year!

Wow, I am jealous that you got some snow. It was supposed to snow here where I live, but it didn't. It snowed above us a little ways though so we have been seeing lots of cars with snow on them.

I'm doing my best to stay upbeat and positive about the situation I was thrown into, it hasn't been too bad. Now I get yet another new experience and it's going to be just as crazy...district leader?! CRAZY!

Love you tons,

Elder Jay Davis

Hey Dad,

I am staying here in Loma Rica, Elder Houx is going to Mt. Shasta! He gets snow...totally jealous, but glad to be staying. I will be getting Elder Kyle Smith as my new companion, he's been out since June (6 months) so I am senior companion. Crazy huh?! What's even crazier is that I'm now the district leader...AHHH!! Well I'll have to work really hard, but I know I can do a good job. (I get to drive cuz I'm senior,WOOT!)

It is definitely nice having lessons to teach, plus this week was much better than last so that's good.

Man, we have GOT to get ourselves past this stinkin' Las Vegas Bowl. I'm glad we are going to a bowl though. Oregon State, man, that'll be a really tough game!

Well I can't think of much new to tell you either. Thanks for all of the updates.

Love you,

Elder Jay Davis
